Over the last few years, we have seen an increase in the number of drug busts in Maine involving fentanyl.

It was only a few days ago that a man named Alexis DeLeon was sentenced to five years in prison for his role in the distribution of about 40 pounds of fentanyl.  That would be enough fentanyl to potentially kill 20 million people!

Now, we are hearing about another bust that involves about a pound of deadly fentanyl.

According to an article on the WGME website, three people are now facing serious drug trafficking charges after police say a months-long investigation led to a raid at a Pittsfield home and the discovery of a large amount of drugs.

According to the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, deputies searched a home on Sibley Pond Road on Wednesday after investigating reports that drugs were being sold from the residence.

What they say they found was not small. Authorities report seizing roughly 1 and 3/4 pounds of fentanyl and cocaine, along with a loaded shotgun, $4,084 in cash, and other evidence tied to drug trafficking. Investigators estimate the street value of the drugs at around $78,000.

Charged with aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs are 34-year-old Hector Marrero of New Jersey, 35-year-old Kelvin Staton of New York, and 69-year-old Julie McDaniel of Pittsfield.

*NOTE - All suspects are considered innocent until being found guilty in a court of law

Investigators say both Marrero and Staton have prior drug-related convictions. Staton was previously charged after a drug raid at a Fairfield home in 2018, and Marrero has past drug convictions in New York.

Marrero and Staton are both being held on $100,000 bail and it is not known if McDaniel was taken to jail.
