Saint Dominic Regional High School has received a major financial gift that school leaders say will have a lasting impact on students and families for years to come.

According to WGME 13, Don and Cathy Dion have donated $1 million to the Lewiston-based Catholic high school to establish the Dion Scholarship, a new scholarship fund designed to support students in their pursuit of a faith-based education.

The scholarship will be dedicated specifically to Catholic students of French-Canadian heritage, reflecting the Dion family’s strong connection to both their faith and cultural background.

According to school officials, the donation will help make a Saint Dominic education more accessible to families who may otherwise struggle with tuition costs. Beginning this school year, the Dion Scholarship is expected to award 40 scholarships, each valued at $5,000. The scholarships will be available to both incoming students and those currently enrolled at the school.

Administrators say the gift represents more than just financial support — it is an investment in the future of the school and its mission to provide strong academics rooted in Catholic values.

The news station went on to say that the Dion family hopes the scholarship program will encourage students to excel academically while maintaining a connection to their faith and heritage.

In addition to establishing the scholarship, the Dion family is challenging others in the community to give back to Saint Dominic Regional High School.

School leaders say the donation could inspire additional contributions that help strengthen programs, expand opportunities, and ensure the long-term success of the school.
