Maine Elementary School Enters ‘Secure Status’ Tuesday Morning Following Suspicious Person
Manchester Elementary School in Windham was placed in a precautionary “secure status” on Monday after school officials received a report of a suspicious person in a nearby neighborhood, according to RSU 14 Superintendent Christopher Howell.
According to WGME 13, Howell said the decision was made out of an abundance of caution while authorities look into the situation. Under secure status, all exterior doors to the school are locked, and visitors are temporarily restricted from entering the building. Students and staff remain inside, but classes and normal activities continue as usual, and the school day is otherwise operating normally.
The superintendent emphasized that the measure is preventative and allows the school to maintain a controlled environment while the situation outside is assessed.
WGME reported that Windham police are on scene and investigating the report, Howell said, and the district is continuing to monitor the situation while staying in communication with law enforcement.
No additional details about the suspicious person have been released at this time.
