Make Room For All Those Bargains: Kiwanis Auction Is Right Around The Corner!
77 years and counting! That's how long the Kiwanis auction has been around; long enough to become a yearly tradition for many!
According to their Facebook Page, the Auction will take place Friday and Saturday, August 23rd and 24th.
"Sale barns open at 3:30 pm and the live auction begins at 5:30 pm. Wander the buildings, grab a bite to eat, and bid in our auction. Great items in store in all our buildings and there’s something for everyone! Bring your friends and your reusable bags."
The auction takes place each year at the Kiwanis Building, located at 168 Forest Avenue in Orono.
Speaking from experience, this is one of those situations where you'll want to get there early, as there's usually a ton of stuff to look at.
There are multiple buildings and surrounding areas on-site to go through, filled with everything from household items, toys, bikes, and books, to appliances and sports equipment; if you're looking for a good bargain, this is the place to be.
There is an auction component to the event, but the other half of the event runs more like a yard sale.
And you can feel good about what you end up purchasing, as the Orono-Old Town Kiwanis Auction serves as the one major fundraiser for the organization, which then uses the proceeds to help give scholarships to local kids and support charitable and children's organizations in the community.
Organizers say the auction generates between $30K and $60K a year for the organization.
Aside from a good bargain, it's also a place where you will most likely bump into someone you haven't seen in a long while.
So enjoy the deals, the company, and the weekend.
Be sure to make room in your car for the treasures you're bound to find.
And plan to head over early, to take advantage of all the keen deals.
If you have items you'd like to donate to the auction, you can call (207) 866-4816 and leave a message.
